Yahoo! Messenger (YIM) is one of the free communication applications on the internet that allows users to exchange messages, share files instantly and contact each other by PC to any calls.
YIM has to use many open ports to support its various functions and protocols than others and that helps create a communicating environment with full of dangers – viruses, spywares, trojans and hackers – to users. When sending messages to friends, users do not know that they are controlled and unintentionally sending messages containing virus links. Therefore this helps spread viruses on the internet.
The frequent releasing of newer versions requires users update more often to be able to use all of its new functions. Thus if a user refuses to update or has a different software version than others, he won’t be able to share files, photos as well as PC calls.
Users also need to have a good speed of internet connection to use up all of its great functions. Otherwise they can just send pure messages.
Sometimes users lose connections because of yahoo servers are down due to server maintenance, hacker attacking, technical errors etc.
In addition, lots of plug-ins integration that sometimes makes it very annoying and messy.
To be improved, YIM needs to apply policies of security (better technical staff, securer servers) and restrictions (ports, services, and plug-ins) to users to limit dangers. However, along with those policies YIM also leans to a poorer application. Which one would you like between them?
